Klymit is proud to announce that Shawn Forry is the new Unsupported Speed Record holder for the Colorado Trail. With a killer time of 10 days, 19 hours, and 5 minutes, Forry smashed the previous record held by Paul Pomeroy of 14 days, 9 hours, and 30 minutes back in 2006.
The Colorado Trail runs from Denver to Durango and travels through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country including six wilderness areas and eight mountain ranges.
Shawn was gracious enough to provide us with his personal reviews of both the Klymit AirBeam Frame and the X-Lite Pad. Here is what he has to say:
On the AirBeam Pack Frame:
While departing the eastern terminus of the Colorado Trail with over 37lbs of food on my back (and nearly 50lbs in total), I knew I needed a pack that could handle excessive loads while still remaining comfortable and compressible to my ever-changing pack volume. I found success along my unsupported speed record attempt in the form of the Granite Gear Crown pack integrated with the new AirBeam framesheet technology designed by Klymit. With a cushion of air against your back, you’ll be hard pressed to find a modular framesheet that is lighter, carries more weight and serves more function that the AirBeam. I have one integrated into both my Granite Gear Crown pack and Cilo 45L Worksack, which not only has increased the carrying comfort, but decreased the overall weight of the pack. When used in conjunction with the ¾ length X-Lite pad, the AirBeam creates a full-length mattress of warmth and comfort.
…and on the X-Lite Pad:
At just over 6oz and packing to the size of a red bull can, the Klymit X-lite sleeping pad was the perfect compliment along my successful attempt at the unsupported Colorado Trail speed record to ensure a restful night’s sleep. Through a balance of weight, comfort and packability, Klymit continues to push the envelope of design, filling a niche in the ultra-light community without sacrificing appeal to the weekend warrior. With over 1500 miles of use, the X-Lite has become my mainstay sleeping pad for all of my personal endeavors.
Thanks Shawn and congratulations on your amazing unsupported speed record–you are truly an inspiration to all of us here at Klymit!
Wow, good goin’, Shawn Forry and AirBeam Pack Frame!
